ManyChat — Instagram and WhatsApp automation, Active Contacts pricing, and when you still need a store
ManyChat is a visual automation platform for Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and related channels. It is the specialist people hire when comments, stories, and DMs need a flow — not when they need a store.
Last updated September 10, 2026 · 13 min read · Edited by SuperKreator editorial (Graphity Technology Private Limited)

ManyChat is what you buy when Instagram comments are a queue, not a novelty. The product is a visual flow builder for Instagram, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and adjacent channels, plus an inbox, broadcasts, and (on higher plans) AI and API access. It is not a link-in-bio and it is not a UPI shop.
Searches for “ManyChat pricing” spiked again after 2 March 2026, when ManyChat introduced a new plan family billed around Active Contacts. Older accounts may still be on a previous model until ManyChat migrates the country. That is why two creators can screenshot two different grids and both be telling the truth.
This guide explains the product, the new pricing logic, and why Indian sellers often pair ManyChat with a local checkout — or skip ManyChat entirely for Superprofile or SuperKreator if the DM only exists to sell one digital product.
What is ManyChat?
ManyChat is a chat marketing platform. You connect professional social accounts, draw automations on a canvas (triggers, conditions, messages, tags), and talk to people in a shared inbox when the bot should step aside.
The company has been in this category longer than almost every “Instagram AutoDM for creators” wrapper. That shows up as:
- Channel breadth (Instagram is one surface, not the only one).
- A mature visual builder, templates, and an agency/partner ecosystem.
- Pricing that looks like CRM volume, because conversations are the inventory.
ManyChat’s own help center (updated with the March 2026 model) describes five plans: Free, Essential, Pro, Business, Advanced. Feature gates include unlimited automations, extra channels such as WhatsApp, inbox seats, AI, and API access as you climb.
How does ManyChat work?
A typical Instagram growth loop:
- Connect an Instagram professional account via Meta.
- Set a trigger: comment keyword, story reply, DM keyword, ice-breaker.
- ManyChat sends a public reply (optional, for reach) and a DM sequence.
- The sequence can ask questions, apply tags, notify a human, or hand off a link.
- That link is usually your checkout — Gumroad, Stripe, Superprofile, SuperKreator, Calendly — because ManyChat is not the merchant.
Active Contacts (2026 model) count people ManyChat engaged in the billing month, not your entire historical list. Overage is per extra contact, at a rate that drops on higher plans. ManyChat lets you set a cap so a viral post cannot surprise-bill you into bankruptcy — configure that before you go viral, not after.
This architecture is why ManyChat is excellent at conversation and agnostic at commerce. It will happily send a Cashfree payment link. It will not reconcile the order, deliver the ZIP, or show INR MRR next to the flow.
Key features of ManyChat
From ManyChat’s pricing and help pages (confirm in-app; regional availability varies):
- Visual automations for Instagram, Messenger, and — from Pro upward in the 2026 writeup — WhatsApp and more channels.
- Inbox with extra seats as a paid add-on on some tiers (Pro help has listed extra seats at $25 each).
- ManyChat AI included on paid 2026 plans in their comparison grid.
- Lead capture widgets and landing-style entry points on Essential+.
- API access called out on Advanced in ManyChat’s plan chooser article.
- 14-day Pro trial mentioned in ManyChat’s Pro plan help article.
Creator-specific Instagram comment-to-DM is table stakes now; ManyChat’s edge is everything around it: branching, tags, sequences, WhatsApp, team inbox, and integrations into the rest of a marketing stack.
Who is ManyChat best for?
ManyChat is the right hammer when:
- You run ads + organic into chats, not only a personal creator page.
- WhatsApp is a real channel in your market, not a QR code in the bio.
- A human team needs an inbox with routing, not a single phone.
- You already have a store and only need the pipe into DMs.
- You need an API or Make/Zapier-class orchestration (plan-dependent).
It is the wrong hammer when:
- You do not have a checkout and were hoping ManyChat is the shop.
- You sell one ₹499 PDF and the “flow” is a single message.
- Your buyers need UPI inside a branded store with file delivery and you do not want two vendors.
ManyChat pricing
ManyChat’s new pricing model launched 2 March 2026. Help articles warn that availability varies by country and by account age. Check manychat.com/pricing while logged in.
Public 2026 figures ManyChat has published (annual billing in parentheses as “from $X/mo” on the marketing page):
| Plan | Contacts included | Annual (ManyChat marketing) | Monthly (help examples) | Overage (monthly, help) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 25 Active Contacts | $0 | $0 | n/a |
| Essential | 250 | From $14/mo ($168/year) | listed higher on monthly | $0.10 / contact |
| Pro | 2,500 | From $29/mo ($348/year) | $39/month in Pro help | $0.05 / contact |
| Business | 7,500 | From $69/mo | higher on monthly | $0.025 / contact |
| Advanced | 25,000 | From $139/mo | higher on monthly | custom / $0.004 in one pricing-grid snippet |
ManyChat states prices exclude tax and depend on billing country. Annual is charged upfront.
Old vs new: If your account was created before 2 March 2026, you may still be on legacy subscriber-based pricing until ManyChat invites you to migrate. Do not argue with a 2024 blog post.
For Indian creators: ManyChat is typically USD-priced. A viral reel that DMs 8,000 unique people on Essential is an overage event. That is the opposite of Superprofile’s “₹499 unlimited-ish AutoDM” marketing. Model contacts, not hope.
Advantages of ManyChat
- Best-in-class flow builder for this category. SuperKreator is not competing on canvas complexity.
- Multi-channel. Instagram-only AutoDM tools look thin once WhatsApp matters.
- Inbox and seats for actual teams.
- Transparent(ish) volume economics once you understand Active Contacts — painful, but modelable.
- API on Advanced for people who are building a real system.
- Ecosystem: templates, agencies, YouTube tutorials in every language.
Limitations of ManyChat
- No native India store. You will paste a URL. Conversion then depends on that URL’s UPI story.
- Active Contacts can dominate cost after a viral hit if you did not set a cap.
- Two logins, two customer graphs if the store is SuperKreator/Superprofile/Gumroad.
- Regional plan rollout. Your friend’s US grid may not be your IN grid.
- It will not encode YouTube LIVE or schedule a week of Reels. That is Metricool for agency reporting, or SuperKreator’s Planner + LIVE for a creator-scale studio.
- Official API still means Meta limits. “Unlimited automations” is not unlimited Instagram courtesy.
ManyChat alternatives
- Superprofile — India AutoDM + UPI store, simpler flows, rupee pricing.
- SuperKreator — Comment-to-checkout as a product idea, Cashfree store attached; flow builder not in ManyChat’s league.
- Stan Store — Includes Instagram AutoDM as part of a paid store, not as a CPaaS.
- WhatsApp-first BSPs (WATI, Interakt, etc.) if WhatsApp is the business and Instagram is secondary.
- Stay on ManyChat and add SuperKreator if the flows are working and you only need a better last click for India.
ManyChat vs SuperKreator
ManyChat wins at automation depth, WhatsApp, inbox, AI-in-the-flow, and (on Advanced) API. If you are a media company running chat as a channel, that is the product.
SuperKreator wins at making the destination of the DM a rupee checkout with file delivery, and at promising bio + store + DM + studio in one login. It does not win a feature checklist against ManyChat’s canvas.
Honest recommendation: use ManyChat until its contact bill or its missing UPI store bothers you. Switch or dual-stack when the order is the object, not the message.
When should you choose ManyChat?
Choose ManyChat when:
- Flows have branches, wait steps, and tags — not one canned reply.
- WhatsApp or Messenger is in the same program as Instagram.
- You have (or will hire) people to live in an inbox.
- You can name the checkout URL you will send.
- You will set an Active Contact cap and treat overage as a media cost.
When should you consider SuperKreator?
Consider SuperKreator when:
- The automation you want is comment → product → UPI, and a 40-node canvas would be theater.
- You do not want to pay per Active Contact for a small catalog.
- You want the buyer, the file, and the bio page in one Indian product.
- You are fine with AutoDM launching as a focused creator feature rather than a CPaaS.
If you already live in ManyChat, you can still point the last button at SuperKreator checkout. That is a valid architecture.
Comparison
Compare a conversation platform to a creator store only on the dimensions that exist in both. ManyChat should win automation. SuperKreator should win checkout.
| Dimension | ManyChat | SuperKreator |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | Automate and staff conversations | Sell from a bio/store; AutoDM as the pipe |
| Instagram comment-to-DM | Mature builder, templates, branching Stronger here | Creator selling pipe in the dashboard (not a flow canvas) |
| WhatsApp & extra channels | Yes, plan-dependent (Pro+ in 2026 docs) Stronger here | Not a multi-channel CPaaS |
| Pricing shape | Active Contacts + overage, USD | Free to start; no published per-contact grid |
| UPI checkout & file delivery | Send a link elsewhere | Cashfree + instant files after verify Stronger here |
| API | Documented on Advanced Stronger here | No public API |
| Best for | Chat as a channel, teams, WhatsApp | Indian creators whose chat exists to sell |
Conclusion
Treat ManyChat like you would treat an ESP: you pay for reach into conversations, not for SKU management. On the 2026 Active Contacts grid, that reach has a clear free tier (25 contacts) and a steep-looking Pro/Business ladder once a reel actually works.
If your automation is “comment LINK → send the UPI product,” a creator OS with checkout attached may be less software. If your automation is a multi-step WhatsApp nurture with an inbox team, ManyChat (or a similar CPaaS) is still the grown-up tool. SuperKreator is not trying to out-flow ManyChat; it is trying to make the sell path shorter for Indian creators. Try that path if the store is the missing piece, not the flowchart.
